Mosca’s New TRI-6 Cross Strapping Unit

Following on the successful market introduction of the Mosca TR-6 series of fully automatic plastic strapping systems, EAM-Mosca is pleased to launch the TRI-6 in-line model to the Americas. The TRI-6 offers an interesting alternative for cross strapping bundles of printed material, mail or other packages up to 24” square and 12” high. A TR-6/TRI-6 duo can typically cross-strap over 30 bundles per minute.

Fully automatic cross strapping may be executed in a number of ways. Typically a conventional strapping machine applies a first strap across the package width. Placing a second strap on the product at a right angle to the first is often done with a second conventional strapping machine in concert with a bundle turning device or right angle transfer to properly orient the package. An alternative is to apply the cross strap with a specially designed strapper that places the strap on the package in the direction of package travel, eliminating the need to rotate it. This also has the advantage of reducing the number of strapping line devices from three to two. Importantly, this two machine system not only reduces the initial strapping equipment expenditure, it also saves space and change over time when maximum required line output is about 30 bundles per minute. The TRI-6, paired with a Mosca TR-6 first stage bundler, offers this type of time and space efficient in-line cross strapping solution.

Wanzie Collins, Owner of Panaprint, a leading commercial printer in the Southeast with a state-of-the-art facility in Macon, GA, took the first TRI-6 unit in a machine swap. A long-time fan of Mosca equipment, Collins says, “These new machines are light years ahead of other models. And, the new Standard 6 strapway is a really great improvement over the 5 Series. The maintenance department here has been impressed with the machines and I’ve always been impressed with how EAM-Mosca treats their customers.”

The TRI-6 contains all of Mosca’s latest industry leading technology. It uses DC brushless direct drives and sealed bearings for long service life and resistance to operational dust and dirt. The Evolution sealer can be specified in thermostatically controlled heat-seal or Mosca’s proprietary Sonixs ultra-sonic sealing technology. The press can be driven pneumatically, or if greater control speed and timing is preferred, electrically.

The TRI-6 Base model features a membrane switch operator panel with all necessary operator functions for fully automatic operation plus diagnostics to assist with fault resolution. The TRI-6 Pro model includes a B&R PLC with an intuitive touchscreen HMI. It offers numerous options for advanced automation including managing strapping parameters based on data transmission from an external system controller.

The TRI-6 uses a unique and simple system to place straps in alignment with the product travel direction. The strap feed drive of the sealer pivots to feed through a fixed track mounted on a diagonal relative to package travel. This allows the product to convey into strapping position without interference from the pre-fed strap loop. To tension the strap, the drive pivots back to align with the transport direction and pulls the strap through a fixed guidance system that places it on the package in line with product flow. Once the strap is pulled tight on the product, it is cut and sealed conventionally. The concept has been proven over many years in the Mosca product line. The TRI-6 refines it and takes advantage of the many advanced features of the Evolution product series to create the best ever strapping machine of its type.

Commercial printers, mailers or any manufacturer that want to cross strap automatically, should consider the Mosca TRI-6 model in-line bundler as a space, time and cost efficient way to apply that troublesome but necessary cross strap to their products.
