When a unique or specific strapping application is needed, hand strapping can be the most productive solution. Mosca’s HUG hand-strapping tool is an efficient, easy-to-use solution that eliminates headaches and mitigates end-of-line packaging hassles through an ergonomic and eco-friendly design for low-volume applications.

The HUG Hand Strapping Tool: An Overview

Mosca’s HUG line consists of two battery-powered strapping tool models, the HUG and the HUG+, both designed for use off an assembly line. These are highly adaptable tools that streamline traditional hand-strapping techniques through semi-automated technology and cutting-edge friction welding solutions.

The HUG is an entry-level tool, making it easy to train individuals to use, requiring no complex safety or operational protocols. (Although training and caution are always advised with any strapping tool.)

Benefits of Hand Strapping With the HUG

The HUG offers several primary benefits for those looking to improve hand strapping efficiency in factories, warehouses, and similar environments.

Ease of Operation

Each HUG tool features a reinforced case for increased stability and stainless-steel components in key areas to guard against corrosion, wear, and tear. It also comes with exceptional ergonomics through a low-weight design with optimal weight distribution. Its intuitive User Interface is also designed for simplicity and speed, resulting in a strapping tool that is durable and comfortable.

Adaptable Application

Powered by rechargeable batteries, the HUG hand tool is easy to transport and use throughout industrial settings where securing products is needed. It also facilitates a variety of applications and strapping positions. Each tool is equipped with a lithium battery, and different models have varying capacities. The 5 Ah battery can hold enough power for 400-550 cycles before needing to be recharged.

A Scalable Solution

The HUG is designed to address multiple strapping needs in varying quantities. It can easily secure irregular products and is suitable for low-volume activity while still maintaining efficiency and consistency. Various packages also allow for the purchase of additional chargers and backup batteries (which take 20 [HUG] - 40 [HUG+] minutes to charge) to deliver more continuous uptime as strapping needs scale.

How to use the HUG hand strapper

As with all hand-strapping solutions, the first step is manual alignment of the two ends of the strap. Once the strap is set, you have three options:

·        Option 1: Use the manual mode to individually adjust strap tension by pushing a button. This creates pulsing tension that an operator can stop when desired. Use the machine to seal and cut excess strap material using additional buttons.

·        Option 2: Use the semi-automatic mode, which implements automation for full tension. The operator can once again decide when to seal and cut the strap through a two-button sequence.

·        Option 3: Use the automatic mode for predictable or repeatable strapping scenarios, where one button does everything.

Along with the multiple modes, the HUG features an innovative user interface. This intuitive color display uses touchscreen technology for higher resolution and greater durability against general wear and tear over time. The software uses images to show icons and parameters, guiding users at all skill levels. The HUG supports eight customizable programs for quick parameter adjustments when changing products.

Strapping Specifics

The HUG works with 9mm-16mm PP (Polypropylene) or PET (Polyester) straps. It has adjustable strap tension, with a soft range of 112 to 337 lbs. for more delicate products, and a full tension of 270 to 607 lbs. The HUG+ is compatible with 15mm-19mm PP and PET strapping, and strap tension can range from 495 to 945 lbs., providing a wide range of options for different applications.

The HUG: Meeting your offline strapping needs

Every assembly line is different. If you don’t have the option for a fully integrated strapping solution in your facility, the HUG offers a versatile and reliable alternative to streamline offline strapping activity.
