TR5C-SQ Evolves to Meet Manufacturer’s Needs
Hazle Township, PA – In 2009 when EAM-Mosca designed its first “CQ” squaring bundler for corrugated box bundles, the strapping equipment manufacturer’s goal was simply to design a less expensive, more intuitive solution than the in-line European style equipment that struggled to be accepted in the North American market. The TR5C-Q was followed by the TR5C-SQ in 2011, offering improved squaring, but still built on the standard TR5-C model bundler platform. In 2013, the TR5C-SQ2 was introduced to add an automated backstop option and a wider range of product sizes that could be squared and strapped. Each model was a success, but each successive model seemed to meet a new need as the box business steadily increased its speed, product range and bundle quality requirements.
This year, according to company President Ralph E. Morini, “EAM-Mosca is further expanding the capability of its TR5C-SQ2 model.” The base model can be installed, stand-alone, with simple first bundle setup capability and throughput of up to 24 bundles per minute, with a conventional heat seal or Mosca’s impressive Sonixs ultra-sonic sealing technology. For high production environments, the system is available with dual dispensers and automatic coil change options for 10-15 second coil changes without operator involvement. It also offers remote troubleshooting capability via Ethernet.
The SQ2A model, the next step in automation capability, includes a motorized backstop with automated setup capability. The setup can be performed using the first bundle; or bundle size data entered by the operator on the operator interface; or with data received externally by serial connection or Ethernet. Bundle “recipes” may be stored and recalled during later runs. In addition, EAM-Mosca offers remote technical support to customers who provide access to the strapping system via a VPN connection.
The most advanced system configuration is the SQ2A-Tandem, where two strapping machines are linked by conveyor sections and integrated controls to create a system capable of up to 36 bundles per minute throughput. The system may be set to strap using the machines alternately for highest output or in a primary-secondary configuration where one unit straps all bundles and the second remains on stand-by, taking over primary strapping capability in the event of a fault in the other machine. The system offers all the automation options of the SQ2 and 2A, plus the speed and backup capability unique to the tandem setup.
The Mosca TR5C-SQ2 family of squaring bundlers provides the highest productivity and highest level of automation available in corrugated bundling. Additionally, the SQ2 systems maintain a simple intuitive structure built on the proven and well understood TR5-C bundler platform. Its modular building block construction allows the configuration to be specified to the exact needs of a given application.
